## What this article covers

**When DecaGEO asked ChatGPT the same 79 US buyer questions about help desk software each week of Q3 2026, Zendesk Suite, Freshdesk and Jira Service Management were the top three in all 13 weeks. What changed was the distance between the first two. Under GPT-5.4, Zendesk was recommended in 79.7% of answers and led Freshdesk by 24.8 to 30.3 points of DECA Score, DecaGEO's 0 to 100 score in which each week's #1 is 100. From July 26, under GPT-5.6 Terra, Zendesk was recommended in 60.9% of answers, Freshdesk in 65.6%, and the two were within 7.0 points of each other in nine of the ten weeks.**

> **Summary for citation:** In DecaGEO's data for ChatGPT in the US (Help Desk category, weeks of July 5 to September 27, 2026), Zendesk Suite, Freshdesk and Jira Service Management ranked #1 to #3 in all 13 weeks, and Jira Service Management was #3 in every week. ChatGPT's model changed from GPT-5.4 to GPT-5.6 Terra in the week of July 26. Zendesk Suite was recommended in 79.7% of answers in the GPT-5.4 weeks and 60.9% in the GPT-5.6 Terra weeks, Freshdesk in 61.2% and 65.6%, and Jira Service Management in 57.0% and 52.0%. Eight tools made the top 10 in all 13 weeks.

> **Key takeaway:** The same three tools led ChatGPT's help desk answers through Q3. In the ten weeks after the July 26 model switch, Zendesk Suite or Freshdesk was #1 in every week, and Jira Service Management was #3 in every week.

DECA Score is relative to the week's #1, which is always 100. Freshdesk at 99.5 means ChatGPT recommended it almost as strongly as Zendesk Suite that week, and Jira Service Management at 71.9 a little under three quarters as strongly. To see whether a tool was recommended more or less often over time, use the share of answers that recommended it.

## The top 10, in detail

### 1. [Zendesk Suite](https://decageo.ai/products/zendesk-suite/category/help-desk) (DECA 100)

\#1 in all three GPT-5.4 weeks, recommended in 61 to 65 of the 79 answers each week. In the GPT-5.6 Terra weeks it was #1 in six, tied with Freshdesk for #1 in the week of August 23, and #2 in the weeks of September 6, 13 and 20, scoring 98.4, 99.4 and 99.4 against Freshdesk's 100. Its share of recommending answers went from 79.7% to 60.9%, the largest fall among the ten tools ranked in the week of September 27. In the week of September 27 ChatGPT recommended it in 50 of 79 answers. A head-to-head with one of the tools further down is in [Zendesk vs Intercom](https://decageo.ai/docs/best-tools/zendesk-vs-intercom).

### 2. [Freshdesk](https://decageo.ai/products/freshdesk/category/help-desk) (DECA 99.5)

## What changed at the July 26 model switch

The week of July 26 was the first measured on GPT-5.6 Terra. The same set of 79 questions was asked in all 13 weeks.

* **The top three stayed the same.** Zendesk Suite, Freshdesk and Jira Service Management were #1 to #3 in every week under both models.
* **Zendesk Suite was named in fewer answers.** Its share went from 79.7% to 60.9%. In the three GPT-5.4 weeks it was recommended in 61 to 65 answers a week, and from July 26 in 44 to 55.
* **The first two moved close together.** Zendesk led Freshdesk by 24.8 to 30.3 DECA points in the GPT-5.4 weeks. From July 26 the gap was 7.0 points or less in nine of the ten weeks, and Freshdesk was #1 or tied for #1 in four.
* **Freshservice moved down.** It ranked #4 or #5 in the GPT-5.4 weeks and #6 to #9 afterwards, and its share went from 36.7% to 26.6%.

These are differences between the two periods, so read each tool's rank against the model it was measured on.

## Notable: BMC Helix ITSM, Help Scout and HubSpot Service Hub

[BMC Helix ITSM](https://decageo.ai/products/bmc-helix-itsm/category/help-desk) ranked #12 to #14 in the GPT-5.4 weeks and made the top 10 in five GPT-5.6 Terra weeks, at #9 or #10. It ranked #11 in the week of September 27 with a DECA Score of 22.4. [Help Scout](https://decageo.ai/products/help-scout/category/help-desk) and [HubSpot Service Hub](https://decageo.ai/products/hubspot-service-hub/category/help-desk) each made the top 10 once, at #10, in a GPT-5.4 week (July 19 and July 12). From July 26 Help Scout ranked #13 to #14 and HubSpot Service Hub #12 to #14.

## What the top tools' cited pages have in common

DecaGEO checks the tools' own pages that ChatGPT cited in its help desk answers for on-page patterns. The category's [Weekly Breakouts](https://decageo.ai/category/help-desk/breakouts) tab shows these patterns by name for the tools that broke in or climbed that week. Here are five of them, counted across the top-10 tools of the week of September 27.

| Pattern | Top-10 tools with the pattern on at least one cited page |
| - | :-: |
| Canonical link present | 10 of 10 |
| Meta description present | 10 of 10 |
| robots.txt available | 8 of 10 |
| Schema.org types | 7 of 10 |
| Content freshness available | 4 of 10 |

*Table 3: A tool counts if at least one of its cited pages has the pattern. All ten top-10 tools are counted. DecaGEO, ChatGPT, US, English, Help Desk category, week of September 27, 2026.*

Canonical links and meta descriptions are on at least one cited page of all ten tools, robots.txt is available for eight and Schema.org types appear for seven. Content freshness shows for four. These counts describe the pages ChatGPT cited, so use the table as a list to check on your own pages, not as the reason for any tool's rank.

## What you can do with this list

**If you are choosing help desk software**, ChatGPT named the same three tools at #1 to #3 in every week of Q3, and eight tools made its top 10 in all 13 weeks. This is a ranking of recommendations, not a review of features, so use it to build a shortlist and test from there.

* Without an account, the [live help desk ranking](https://decageo.ai/category/help-desk) shows the current week, and each tool's product page shows its Overview for that week.
* With a free account, each tool's product page has a Segment Position tab with one card for each buyer condition, by business scale, use case and support approach. A card shows where that tool ranks among the answers to that condition's questions and the share of those answers that recommended it, or "Not mentioned". Open the product pages of the tools on your shortlist and compare the same card across them, for example the use case closest to your support team's work. Clicking a ranked card opens the questions behind it, and the Brand Ranking Trail shows the order ChatGPT recommended tools in each answer.

**If your brand is in this category**, the same pages show where you stand.

* Without an account, search your brand in the header and open its Overview. The GEO Guide, under Dashboard in the site header, checks your own page for on-page GEO patterns. It is free, and the first step needs no account.
* With a free account, you get the latest four weeks, the Brand Ranking Trail for each question, every third-party source ChatGPT cited behind the recommendations in Off-Page Citations, the segment cards (including ones where you are not mentioned), and tracking for one brand.
* Pro (\$49 a month) adds ten weeks of data, full Chart History and CSV export.

## FAQ

**Which help desk software does ChatGPT recommend most?** Zendesk Suite and Freshdesk. In the GPT-5.6 Terra weeks of Q3 2026, Freshdesk was recommended in 65.6% of answers and Zendesk Suite in 60.9%, and either one was #1 in every week. Under GPT-5.4, Zendesk Suite was #1 in all three weeks and recommended in 79.7% of answers.

**Is Zendesk or Freshdesk ranked higher by ChatGPT?** Under GPT-5.4, Zendesk Suite was #1 in all three weeks. Under GPT-5.6 Terra, one of the two was #1 in every week. Freshdesk was #1 in the weeks of September 6, 13 and 20, and the two tied in the week of August 23. In those four weeks the two were no more than 1.6 DECA points apart.

**Where does Intercom rank?** #9 in the GPT-5.4 weeks and #8 to #12 in the GPT-5.6 Terra weeks. It was #9, tied with ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus, in the week of September 27.

**What is DECA Score?** A 0 to 100 score for how often and how high ChatGPT recommends a tool within one category in one week. The week's #1 is 100. Details are in How we measure and the [methodology](https://decageo.ai/methodology).

**Are these rankings stable?** The same three tools were #1 to #3 in all 13 weeks, Jira Service Management was #3 in every one, and eight tools made the top 10 in every week. Below #3, some places moved at the July 26 model switch. Freshservice, for example, went from #4 or #5 to #6 to #9.

**Is this a features review?** No, it ranks tools by how ChatGPT recommends them, not by feature quality, price or results.

## How we measure

The common method, including how questions are built and how DECA Score is calculated, is on the [methodology page](https://decageo.ai/methodology).

* **Window:** 13 weeks, July 5 to September 27, 2026, ChatGPT, US, English. The weeks of July 5, 12 and 19 were measured on GPT-5.4 and the weeks from July 26 on GPT-5.6 Terra. Figures from the two periods are shown side by side and not combined.
* **Sample:** the same 79 help desk questions every week, one answer per question, so 237 answers in the GPT-5.4 weeks and 790 in the GPT-5.6 Terra weeks.
* **DECA Score** is shown for one week only, because it is relative to that week's #1. The distance between #1 and #2 in DECA points can be compared across weeks.
* **Recommended in** counts answers that recommended the tool. Passing or negative mentions are not counted.
* **Top-10 weeks** counts weeks with a rank of 10 or better, including ties.
* **Page patterns** are from the week of September 27, on each tool's own pages cited in that week's help desk answers.
* The [live board](https://decageo.ai/category/help-desk) updates every Sunday, so it shows weeks after September 27.
