# What is DecaGEO?

> DecaGEO is the open, weekly ranking of AI brand visibility, with actionable insights to improve how ChatGPT recommends your brand. Free to explore, no sign-up.

Your buyers ask AI before they ask Google. When someone researches your category now, the first answer comes from AI, and it names just two or three brands. If yours isn't one of them, you're out before the shortlist even forms.

Until now, there was never a ranking you could check. DecaGEO is that ranking.

DecaGEO is an AI brand visibility tracker that publishes an open, weekly ranking of how ChatGPT recommends 100+ brands, category by category. Every brand is scored on the same standardized prompts in the same weekly collection window, and anyone can search a brand and see where it stands — free, no sign-up.

## How is DecaGEO different from a dashboard?

DecaGEO is an AI visibility tracking platform, but a different kind. Most tools in the category are private dashboards: you write your own prompts, add the competitors you want to watch, and read the results in a private view. DecaGEO publishes its data as an open, weekly ranking that scores every brand in a category on the same prompts, on the same schedule, visible to anyone.

Seeing the whole category changes what you can learn. You can benchmark how top-ranked products earn their AI visibility, and see what a new entrant applied to start appearing in answers — signals a single-brand view never surfaces. And when you want a focused view, [Compare](/docs/using/compare) puts just the products you choose side by side, on the same standardized data.

|                     | Private AI visibility dashboard            | DecaGEO                                                  |
| :------------------ | :----------------------------------------- | :------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Who sees it** | Only you | Anyone |
| **What's measured** | Your brand + competitors you choose to add | Every brand in the category |
| **Prompts** | You write your own | Standardized, brand-anonymous, identical for every brand |
| **Setup** | Configure and connect data | None — search a brand name |
| **Schedule** | Whenever you run it | Weekly, same collection window for everyone |

Because every brand in a category is scored on the same prompt set in the same collection window, the numbers are comparable across brands and across weeks. That comparability is the point.

## What we measure

The headline numbers are two metrics, but the measurement goes deeper: for every category we also collect the AI's full responses, the citations behind each recommendation, and the on-page GEO practices each ranked product applies. The metrics tell you where you stand; the evidence tells you why.

### Rank & weekly movement

Your overall position in the category, set by DECA Score (Rank 1 = highest), with the shift since last week — momentum, not just a snapshot.

### DECA Score

A 0–100 measure of how strongly AI recommends a brand in its category, combining how often you're recommended with how high you rank when you are. Only genuine recommendations count — passing mentions and negative references are excluded.

### Mention Rate

The share of AI answers that recommend your brand when asked about your category — your AI share of voice, benchmarked against every competitor.

### Segment Position

Your rank inside a specific buyer context rather than the overall chart. You might rank #5 overall but #1 in the segment that matters most to your buyers.

## How we collect the data

We measure under fixed conditions each week, then publish the full methodology behind the rankings.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Design buyer-like prompts">
    We build category prompts around real buyer needs, with no brand names included. Because the prompts are brand-anonymous, no brand is prompted into an answer.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Collect AI responses">
    We run the same prompt set every week under fixed conditions — same model, same collection window — and store the full response text along with every source it cites. Holding the conditions constant is what makes week-over-week comparison meaningful.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Score, rank & publish">
    We extract recommended brands and their positions, and record which on-page GEO practices each ranked product applies — so every ranking is published with the evidence behind it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Rankings currently run on ChatGPT, with more engines on the roadmap. Coverage changes are announced in the [changelog](/docs/deca/whats-new/changelog).

## What's behind every ranking

The chart is the entry point. Each ranked [product](/docs/using/product-details) also has a detail view with the evidence behind its position.
