What this article covers

This list ranks project management tools by how strongly ChatGPT actually recommends them (DECA Score), measured weekly by DecaGEO since May 2026. The current ranking reflects the week of August 16, 2026 (ChatGPT GPT-5.6, US). Project management is the category where the top changes the most: three #1 changes in the four weeks since the GPT-5.4 to GPT-5.6 model change, with Jira and ClickUp trading the spot.
Summary for citation: In DecaGEO’s data (ChatGPT GPT-5.6, US, Project Management category, week of August 16, 2026), Jira is #1 (DECA 100), 7.6 points ahead of ClickUp (92.4), after retaking the spot ClickUp held for one week. monday Work Management and Asana are tied at #3 (77.1) with Smartsheet at #5 (74.3) — the same five tools that held every top-5 slot in the GPT-5.4 spring (May 10 – July 12, 2026). No leader has held this board longer than two weeks since the model change. Rankings come from a fixed weekly prompt grid that no customer can edit.
Key takeaway: The order churns, the shortlist doesn’t. The spring’s five names are the current top five again after a month of #1 flips and Wrike’s one-week visit to #3 — in this category, which tools ChatGPT considers top-tier is far more stable than the order it puts them in.

How this ranking works

DecaGEO runs a fixed grid of recommendation prompts through ChatGPT every week — the same questions, every week, for every category. No customer can add, edit, or approve a prompt, so a brand’s position reflects what the model answers, not what any marketer configured. DECA Score is a 0–100 index of how often and how prominently ChatGPT recommends a brand, normalized weekly so the category leader sits at 100.

Three #1 changes in four weeks

The spring looked very different. Across the 10 GPT-5.4 weeks (May 10 – July 12, 2026), the same five tools (monday, Smartsheet, Asana, ClickUp, Jira) held every top-5 slot, and monday Work Management led the final five of those weeks (6 of 10 overall, with Smartsheet at 3 and ClickUp at 1). The model change ended monday’s run and started a rotation that has not stopped. Jira took #1 in the week of July 26 and held two weeks, ClickUp took it in the week of August 9, and Jira took it back a week later. No leader has held longer than two weeks since the change. The same week Jira retook the top, Wrike gave back its one-week climb to #3 in full (+12.0 in, −23.9 out), the sharpest single-brand reversal we have tracked in this category. Underneath that churn, the membership held — and this week, precisely. The current top five are the spring’s five names, back in a new order, and seven of the spring’s top ten remain in the top ten. The weekly moves are the AI Ranking Movers series’ story. This page’s story is that the set of tools ChatGPT considers recommendable barely moves even while its order refuses to settle.

The top 10, in detail

1. Jira — DECA 100

Atlassian’s tool is the board’s only two-time #1 since the model change: it ended monday’s spring run, held two weeks, and retook the top after ClickUp’s one-week reign.

2. ClickUp — DECA 92.4

Took #1 in the week of August 9 and gave it back a week later. Still the more-named of the top two (41%), and held #1 once in late May as well.

3. monday Work Management — DECA 77.1

The spring’s dominant #1 (6 of 10 GPT-5.4 weeks) climbed back to a #3 tie, and is the most frequently named tool on the board (43%).

3. Asana — DECA 77.1

Tied at #3. Top-5 in every spring week without ever taking #1 — the board’s steadiest presence that has never led. (See Asana vs monday.com and ClickUp vs Asana.)

5. Smartsheet — DECA 74.3

The early-spring leader (#1 in 3 GPT-5.4 weeks) rounds out the returning five.

6. Wrike — DECA 70.5

Held #3 for one week and returned the gain in full (−23.9, the week’s biggest fall anywhere) — still ahead of the second tier.

7. ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management — DECA 47.6

Enterprise portfolio management, the clearest name between the leading six and the rest.

8. Linear — DECA 35.2

The dev-team favorite, holding a steady presence in the recommendation set.

8. Jira Align — DECA 35.2

Atlassian’s enterprise agility layer, tied with Linear — a second Atlassian entry in the top ten.

10. Notion — DECA 33.3

The flexible workspace, recognized for project work in both model eras.

What this means for you

  • The top is genuinely open. Three #1 changes in four weeks, a 7.6-point lead, and no reign longer than two weeks — in this category, the week’s #1 is a reading, not a verdict.
  • One-week spikes reverse. Wrike’s +12.0-then-−23.9 is the cleanest example yet of why a single strong week reads as an observation, not a trend.
  • Membership is the durable signal. The spring five are the current top five. If your brand competes here, tier membership is the metric to defend; order will keep moving on its own.

How we measure

DecaGEO runs a consistent set of Project Management recommendation prompts each week through ChatGPT (US region) and records which brands are named and how prominently.
  • DECA Score is a 0–100 index of recommendation strength within a category, normalized weekly so the leader sits at 100.
  • Current ranking: week of August 16, 2026, collected on GPT-5.6. Historical references from May 10 – July 19, 2026 were collected on GPT-5.4; comparisons across late July cross that model boundary.
  • Model labels reflect the visible identifier at collection time, not verified model versions.
  • Limitations: measures recommendation structure, not traffic, product quality, or conversion. A single week’s change is an observation, not a trend.
