What “Not mentioned” on a buyer card means
DecaGEO asks ChatGPT the same set of buyer questions every week in each category. Each question describes a buyer by conditions such as company size, main use case or budget. The Segment Position tab on a product page groups those questions by one condition at a time and gives each condition a card. A card shows the brand’s rank among the answers to that condition’s questions and the share of those answers that recommend it. A card reads “Not mentioned” when none of that week’s answers for the condition recommended the brand. A brand that an answer names in passing, compares against, or advises the buyer to avoid does not count as recommended there. A card rests on far fewer answers than the whole category, so a single week at zero can be chance. The figures below count only cards that stayed at zero for four weeks in a row.How many top brands are left out for a buyer
Across the ten categories, 70 pairs of a brand and a card stayed at zero for all four weeks while the brand ranked in its category’s top 10 in every one of those weeks. Every category had at least one. In 18 of the 70, the brand was in the top 5 on October 4, 2026. Those 18 pairs involve 14 of the brands in the ten categories’ top 5 lists, on 15 cards.
DecaGEO, ChatGPT (GPT-5.6 Terra), US, English, weeks of September 13 to October 4, 2026. Definitions in How we measured.
Company size and use case account for most of the 70. Use-case cards make up 25 and business-size cards 24. Of the 24 business-size pairs, 17 are cards for small businesses, 6 are enterprise cards and 1 is mid-market. Among the 18 top-5 pairs, 7 are business-size cards, and 6 of those are small-business cards.
The answers on those small-business cards went to other brands. On October 4, the small-business CRM card’s top three were Zoho CRM, Zoho CRM Plus and Freshsales, and the small-business Marketing Automation card’s were Brevo Marketing Platform, MailerLite and Klaviyo. A single brand can sit on both sides. Brevo ranked first in Email Marketing in all four weeks, and no answer to the Email Marketing card for buyers who want premium features and support, with budget not the priority, recommended it. On October 4, Brevo Marketing Platform topped the small-business Marketing Automation card.
Six pairs where the answer text was checked
Same source and window as the table above. “Answers naming the brand at all” counts answers in which the brand’s product name, company name or a known alias appears anywhere in the text. Top three ranks brands from the category ranking by the same points as the category ranking (earlier in an answer earns more), using that week’s answers on the card.
Iterable, small-business card. In 60 answers over four weeks, Iterable’s name appeared once, in a list of tools the answer advised small businesses or startups against starting with. On October 4, 2026, the enterprise Marketing Automation card had Iterable third.
Customer.io, enterprise card. Customer.io ranked 4th to 7th in Marketing Automation across the four weeks. Its homepage says “Enterprise ready” and “Protect customer data with enterprise-grade safeguards for both your team and AI agents.” In 60 answers to enterprise buyers over the same weeks, the name Customer.io did not appear, and the card’s recommendations went to Braze, Agentforce Marketing and Iterable. The brand says it sells to the buyer, and the answers to that buyer leave it out.
Claude, team card. Claude’s pricing page offers a plan “For teams of 2 to 150”. The AI Writing Assistants card for team and business use returned 80 answers over four weeks and none named Claude. Writer, Jasper and Grammarly led that card on October 4.
Iterable’s card fits ChatGPT matching tools to the buyer’s size. Iterable was third on the enterprise card on October 4 and was named on the small-business card only as a tool to hold off on. Customer.io’s enterprise card and Claude’s team card describe buyers that the brands’ own pages address.
How to sort your own cards
Ahrefs made the general point on September 30, 2026, writing that “a brand can look strong overall while being almost invisible for an important use case.” On September 29, 2026, Semrush described companies that “started out serving small businesses and have since moved upmarket to enterprise” and called the delay before language models reflect a new positioning “the LLM positioning lag”. DecaGEO’s data does not show whether Customer.io or Claude changed its positioning. The steps below sort a card by what your own site says today.- Check your overall place. The public category ranking shows every ranked brand’s rank and weekly movement for the latest week, without signup.
- Find the cards that stay at zero. Once you sign in, including on the free plan, the Segment Position tab shows a card for every buyer condition in your category, with “Not mentioned” on the ones where no answer recommended you. The week selector at the top of the product page covers the last four weeks on the free plan and ten on Pro. List the cards that read “Not mentioned” in all four of the free plan’s weeks, the same test the figures above use, and set aside the ones that hit zero in only some weeks.
- Hold each card against your own site. Open your pricing page and homepage and look for the buyer the card describes, by company size, team type, use case or budget. If you do not sell to that buyer, the card shows ChatGPT sending that buyer to other tools, and it can stay off your list. If your site says you sell to that buyer, the card goes on the list to fix.
- See who gets that buyer instead. Open the product pages of other brands in your category ranking and find the same card on each one’s Segment Position tab. Pick a brand that has a rank on that card. On that brand’s page, Prompt & AI Response lists the answers in which that brand appears, and its Filters narrow them to that buyer’s segment. Each row’s Brand Ranking Trail lists the recommended brands in answer order, so you can see who was recommended for that buyer, in what order, and whether your brand is in the Trail. The full response text and CSV export are on Pro.
- Start the fix from what reaches that buyer. Off-Page Citations, open on the free plan, lists the third-party reviews, forums and directories ChatGPT cites in your category, including the ones that cite competitors and not you. Improve your rank sets out a weekly loop from that diagnosis to checking whether a change held. DecaGEO measures and does not edit pages.
- Watch the same card. The free plan tracks one brand, and Pro tracks any number of brands with weekly change alerts. Recheck the card on the Segment Position tab after a few weekly runs.
FAQ
My brand is top 5 in ChatGPT but one buyer card says “Not mentioned”. Is something wrong?
Not necessarily. From September 13 to October 4, 2026, 18 pairs of a top-5 brand and a buyer card in DecaGEO’s ChatGPT rankings had no recommendation in any of the four weeks. Whether yours is a gap depends on whether your site says you sell to that buyer. See the table. How do I tell a gap from a buyer I don’t sell to?
Check whether your pricing page or homepage says you sell to the buyer the card describes. If it does and the card stays at zero in all four weeks the free plan shows, it is a gap. See How to sort your own cards.Does “Not mentioned” mean ChatGPT never said my brand’s name?
No. It means no answer for that buyer recommended you. An answer can name a brand to compare it or to advise against it, as one answer did with Iterable for small businesses and startups. See Six pairs where the answer text was checked. Is one week at zero enough to act on?
A card rests on far fewer answers than the category, so one week can be chance. The figures here count only cards at zero in all four weeks. See What “Not mentioned” on a buyer card means. How we measured
The panel’s questions, schedule and metric definitions are on the methodology page. What is specific to these figures:- Window. Four weekly runs, weeks of September 13 to October 4, 2026, all on GPT-5.6 Terra, ten categories, the same questions every week.
- Card. One value of one buyer condition in one category, such as “Small businesses and startups with basic automation needs” in Marketing Automation, covering that week’s answers to the questions with that value. The axes differ by category. AI Writing Assistants, for example, has no company-size axis.
- No recommendation for four weeks. None of the card’s answers recommended the brand in any of the four weeks. A brand named without being recommended counts as not recommended.
- Top 10 and top 5. The brand ranked 1st to 10th in its category in each of the four weeks. “Top 5” adds that it ranked 1st to 5th on October 4.
- Answers naming the brand at all. Answers on the card whose text contains the brand’s product name, company name or a known alias. Short or common company names also match unrelated words, so the table shows only pairs with zero matches or where the matching answer was read.
- Brand’s own site. Customer.io’s homepage and Claude’s pricing page as they read on October 8, 2026. The other brands’ sites were not checked, so the table gives no verdict for them.
