Profound led GEO for 3 weeks. This week, it dropped to #4.
What a 66.7% mention rate drop tells us about AI ranking volatility. For three consecutive weeks, Profound held the #1 position in our GEO category ranking. This Monday, the chart looked completely different. Profound is now #4. Its mention rate dropped 66.7% in seven days. Semrush jumped six ranks to take #1. Ahrefs jumped seven ranks to #2. This is the kind of shift that doesn’t happen on G2 or Capterra. Software review sites take quarters to reshuffle. AI mention rates can swing in a single week.
The 3-week pattern
When we started running the weekly GEO category ranking in early April, Profound was the consistent winner. Its mention rate hovered around 90%. ChatGPT (GPT-5.4) recommended Profound when buyers asked about generative engine optimization tools more often than any competitor. For three weeks, the top of the chart was stable. Profound dominant. The rest jockeying for second. Then this Monday’s run came in.What the chart looks like now

Why AI mention rates shift this fast
Three things drive week-over-week volatility in AI brand mentions. Model updates. Even minor adjustments in how a language model retrieves and ranks brand recommendations can shift the order of names returned in a single prompt. GPT-5.4 has had multiple minor updates since we began tracking. Content velocity. Brands shipping structured, data-rich content cited by AI engines can rapidly improve their visibility within days, not months. A well-placed comparison post or methodology page can move the needle within a week. Search behavior shifts. The mix of prompts buyers actually ask shifts week to week. A new use case becoming popular can favor different brands. For traditional SEO and review-site rankings, none of these factors move the needle quickly. For AI brand visibility, they move it in days. What this means if your brand is in one of the 10 categories we track
Most brands optimize for AI visibility the same way they optimized for SEO five years ago. Strategy set quarterly. Measurements pulled quarterly. Reactions made quarterly. That cadence doesn’t work when your visibility can drop 66.7% in a week. If you ship content monthly and your competitors ship weekly, the gap compounds. If your AI ranking shifts weekly and you check it quarterly, you’re managing yesterday’s data. How we measure
Every Monday, we run 100 standardized prompts on ChatGPT (GPT-5.4) in the United States across 10 software categories. We count brand mentions, calculate mention rate, and compute a normalized DecaGEO Score where the top brand gets 100. Same methodology, same prompts, every week. This is the first weekly ranking chart for AI brand visibility. Refreshed every Monday because in this category, weekly is the right cadence.See this week’s full ranking → DecaGEO.
